June 16-18, 2022. Thursday-Saturday

Thursday

Headed toward Austin, NV,  crossed the Reese River and saw an antelope.  Need groceries, but no store in Austin.  Drove through Battle Mountain, but didn't stop.  Went on to Elko.

Bought groceries at Elko Walmart as we are heading north where no good provisioning towns exist.

Friday  Columbia, NV

Drove up here last night looking for Jack Creek Campground.  Couldn't find it, ended up way back in the high desert where Dave used to load sheep for Uncle Tom.  "Columbia"--so beautiful here.  This morning drove down the track a bit further  and found the most gorgeous aspen grove bursting with yellow flowers, truly magical.  Saw two bands of sheep up there with Ahkbash dogs.  Waited for one band to finish crossing the road.  Drove back to the main gravel road and headed for Owyhee, still looking for Jack Creek Campground.

Have found a good pullout off the road.  Will stop here for rest of today and tomorrow because it is very windy.  Very stressful to drive the high top van in strong wind conditions.  We are sharing our campsite with a few cow/calf pairs, listening to them calling to one another.

I am having trouble breathing at this altitude.

Saturday

Went back to the beautiful vale of daisies at Columbia and Dave took lots of pictures while I cooked a sausage, pancake, and egg breakfast on our new griddle.  Worked great!
About 9:30 am we finished and headed to Owyhee, then on to Mountain City and South on NV225 still looking for Jack Creek Campground.  Looked all around the Wild Horse Reservoir area, but never saw any signs.  As it got late in the day, we decided to go back to Elko (65 miles) and get a room and do laundry.  Stayed at a Day's Inn--too expensive!--$84 plus laundry facilities didn't work, so paid $9 to wash and dry two loads at a laundromat.
