Left Teal Campground today, Looked at a few other campgrounds before we picked this one–Big Meadows Reservoir and Campground. We are at 9276 feet elevation. We just crossed the Continental Divide at Wolf Peak Pass (10,856 elevation), so now we are camping on the east side of the divide instead of the west. Our site is elevated a bit above the lake, but it’s a pretty close view. We are in a valley beyond a canyon. The reservoir just about fills the valley, with camping on this SE side of the lake. When we first got here all the signs were that a thunderstorm was imminent. So we didn’t take anything out of the van. Decided to wait till the rain was past. But it’s been about an hour and the storm wind and the thunder have come and gone. The storm seems to be veering northward. It seems a little drier here on the eastern slope. I wonder if the clouds hold their moisture until they’re over the top then dump it all on the western side. We shall see.
Saw that Hannah had tried to call us, but didn’t go through. Managed to call her back and connected. Sad news. Mom passed away on Thursday afternoon. This is all we know so far. Seems like we should move in the morning and head back toward Reno.
We needed a stress-reliever, so took a small hike over the reservoir dam. Nice. At the end of the dam, the path turned and there was an arched bridge over the small spillway. The water rushing over the rocks can be heard all over the campground.
