Packed up and left Palmer Junction by the river this morning.  In reorganizing  things, we came up with another good batch of stuff to throw away.  Looks like we left our laundry soap at Dee’s house.

Got word by email that Mom is not doing well.  So we headed toward Reno and should be there in two days.  Stopped in Elgin, Oregon first and bought groceries, did laundry, and mailed letters/park brochures to all the grandkids.  Talked with Hannah by phone.  She visited Mom yesterday and Zoey is flying in on Friday to visit.  Val and Elaine visited with Hannah in Tahoe after their visit with Mom.

In Vale, OR, it was 104 degrees at 6:30 pm.  VERY HOT.  Best sunset ever tonight in our rear view mirrors.  It was absolutely stunning and went on for 45 minutes.  We were dazzled.

Drove to Fallon, NV and stayed overnight at the Value Inn.  Good clean place with basic amenities.  Got a few things we needed at CVS and Walmart.  Tried to get Morrison’s oil changed, but they were extremely busy.  Super hot out.  We holed up in our air conditioned room.  Bought some beer and pizza.

Got water for our tanks in Fallon.  Then drove to Reno and visited with Mom for a while.  She is clearly very heavily medicated and she has trouble keeping her eyes open and attending to what is going on and being said.  When we hugged her and said it was Dave and Marsha, she smiiled and squeezed our hands and seemed tickled to see us.  Conversation was easiest when we talked about long-ago things we did together rather than more current topics.  We did not see her private apartment.  Instead they brought her by wheelchair into an empty office and we visited there. Not sure why they did that.   It was difficult to see her so changed.  The dementia has progressed, but the pain management meds are really affecting her ability to interact with people.
