Yesterday was Eclipse Day!! About 11 am we were making coffee in the van and noted that it seemed a bit dim outside, but not cloudy. I was planning to look at the eclipse, but I thought it wasn’t going to happen until about 1 pm. I dug out the solar glasses and looked up. Surprise!! Eclipse already in full swing. It reached approximately 75% coverage, but the light did not dim as much as I had expected. Later, once the moon’s shadow had fully receded, the sky filled with numerous clouds. Felt lucky to see as much as we did.
Still at Buenos Aires (“good winds”) Wildlife Refuge. We hike up and down the road in front of our campsite. It’s hilly, so a good workout. Rains last week have left areas that have dried out, but they have numerous animal tracks left behind. The deer prints are obvious. There is something else, looks 3-toed, but we can’t figure out what that print belongs to. This morning after 3 nights at this particular campsite, there was fresh scat on the road right by the van. It was clearly from a large animal, perhaps a mountain lion. We also saw a few big cat-like prints along the road. The scat, left where it was so near us, felt like a message “Hey, this is MY territory. You don’t belong here.”
