Thursday, October 6 Flagstaff, Arizona- - 10/7-10/16 Kelso Dunes and Alabama Hills

Thursday, October 6, 2022    Flagstaff, Arizona

Practiced our stealth camping in a Flagstaff neighborhood, including finding a city park to cook breakfast in the morning.  Had some pleasant conversations with two different ladies who came past where we were cooking.  The van is sometimes a conversation starter.  People say “You’re living my dream life…”  Lovely weather in Flagstaff.  Made an appointment with the estate attorney in Carson City for next week, so moving in that direction.

Friday, October 7 - Tuesday, October 11, 2022

Dry camped in the Kelso Dunes in the Mojave Preserve.  We found a spot by the only trees for miles around and camped there, right at the base of the big sand dunes.  Surprisingly, it blew up a big rain storm that lasted most of one afternoon.  We left some equipment outside and found out afterwards how much a hard rain in the sand can cause the sand to bounce up and stick to everything.  It took a while to clean it all.

After Kelso Dunes we went to the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA and camped with an astounding view of the Sierras and the Mt. Whitney portal.  Full moon – incredibly peaceful until Tuesday, when a fighter jet flew back and forth many times, ruining our sense of peace.

Foliage is turning color now and the Eastern slope of the Sierras is both beautiful and a great temperature in October.
