Tons of people show up just in time to see the daily sunset, but dawn on the coast is a much more solitary event. A rosy pink spans everywhere I look, then slowly fades to a pale white and suddenly sun hits the tops of the rocks and the day has begun.
We are watching whales blow near the shore this morning. So exciting to see one after another send spray up into the air. Very occasionally we see the flash of a whale’s back, and once Dave saw a tail as the whale headed deep. We track the whale-watch boats coming toward us as they leave the bay and head into the open ocean. Since they have sonar to find the whales, we keep an eye on them and , sure enough, they have located a pod of whales. Water spouts randomly all over the place and the boats make a wide circle around the whales. Later the boats head back to the wharf and the water spouts can be seen moving further south.
