Willow Creek Campgrpund near Lakeview, Oregon, free, no water
Yesterday became a travel day. We decided to skip looking at other camp locations at Sheldon Refuge and drove on to Lakeview, OR. Nice little town, very clean. A local told us that the water was bad and they don't drink it, so we didn't refill any of our water jugs there. Had a nice takeout lunch from El Aguila Real (sister place to the one in Battle Mountain) and grocery shopped in Safeway. Saw a sign for this campground along the road and drove out to it, about 20 miles off the highway. Incredible green meadows all the way out here. We are in mixed pine and alder forest. So lovely and quiet, just bird song and the neighbor chopping fire wood.
We used our new shower bag yesterday morning and washed our hair--easy! Worked out great.
Today we set up the tent. First time so far. There are SO many mosquitos here. The tent helped a lot as a place to get away from them. Dave injured his left thumb Saturday 6/18 when he half-fell out of the van side door. He caught his thumb in the van rain gutter and twisted it. It has been hurting him, but today after using the sledge hammer to drive stakes for the tent, it is hurting sooo much more. Very swollen.
We plan to stay here 2 more nights and leave Monday morning to drive to Reno. We have an appointment at Field Van for Tuesday 6/28 to install a swivel on the driver seat, then both of the seats will turn to face the back when we are parked. Also planning to purchase something like a Yeti Goal Zero 1000x solar generator with portable solar panels. Hopefully it is in stock at Cabela's. Will look for a low cost motel in Reno for Monday night.
