Wednesday, July 6, 2022 Lassen Volcanic National Park
Went to Lassen Volcanic National Park today. Wow! So incredibly beautiful. There was evidene of the Dixie Fire here too, but not as much. High point on the road was 8100 feet, with snow there and a cold breeze. Summit Lake was gorgeous, an amazing landscape, with a campground right there. People were launching kayaks from the shore. We drove through to find a dumpster for our trash. After Lassen we drove to Mt. Shasta. There was a good view of the snow capped mountain. Got fuel in Weed and noticed that tread was separating from 2 tires. Went back to Mt. Shasta City and brought new tires all around. Ride is much improved. While we were at the tire shop, we sat outside at a picnic table and had a very pleasant conversation with a lady who had hit a bear with her car and was getting damage assessed.
Drove to Keno, Oregon looking for Keno Rec Site by a reservoir. The campground was full. Drove out a small distance from the campground into surrounding BLM land and found a pullout with a campfire ring, so we stayed here overnight. Woke up to thick morning fog. It was a wonderful, silent night’s sleep. The only drawback to this spot is that I see what looks to me like poison oak growing here. I'm trying to avoid it completely.
