Monday, August 15, 2022   Return to Reno

 

Left Big Meadow Reservoir and headed west.  Stopped in Cortez for a $3 shower at their rec center.  Stopped again in Moab for a sandwich and potato salad picnic at the city park.  Right now we are about 150 miles away from Ely, NV.  Once we cross over Utah into Nevada we will find a place to pull out and sleep.

Slept last night in a pull-out on National Forest Land.  Extremely quiet.  Drove thru Nevada today on Hwy 50.  We have stopped at Big Creek Campground out a valley road from Hwy 50 and then up a ways into a narrow canyon.  Nobody else is here at all, although the Sheriff Deputy might have followed us out here.  He showed up at the campground only minutes after we pulled fin.  The turn off from Hwy 50 is only a few miles west of Austin, Nevada.  

 

We made pork in green chili sauce in the pressure cooker and ate it with rice.  Bought beer today for only the second time since we’ve been on the road.  This camp is a  little hotter than Colorado, so the beer was refreshing.  There is a creek running right beside this campground and I can hear it gurgle away as I sit here this evening.

Arrangements for Mom’s funeral are a Catholic Mass this Friday in Reno (8/19) and then a graveside service next Friday (8/26) in Escalon, California, where Dad is buried.  We are  having a quiet day today in this small campground.  Heard and then saw a big group of Chukkar near the stream, then they took off up the hillside to hang out in the shade of  the rocks.
