Hunkering down for the Winter
Having spent a few nights this Autumn at high elevation campgrounds, we remembered why we went to Mexico last February to escape the chill. Cold nights in the van (maybe 32 degrees) are not a problem. We have warm sleeping bags and wear warm hats, so we are very snug. Waking in the morning, though, and getting OUT of bed is a different story. Dave wakes before me and wraps up in wool blankets, wool socks, and warm slippers as he moves from the bed to a chair. He starts the van engine to give us some heat and boils water in the electric kettle to make a hot drink. I sit up, but stay in bed, reluctant to leave the warmth of the covers until after I’ve had my hot drink. We realize that we need to insulate the van if we’re going to spend any time in it as the temperatures drop in Winter months. For this reason, we have planned a van hiatus. We will spend November thru February at Rory’s in Monterey this year. It will give us time with the Monterey grandchildren and we will work on building out Morrison, focusing primarily on insulation and interior surfaces. Dave will truly do most of the work, but I will make new window coverings and supervise (!!!). Probably won’t be much written in this blog during that time.
