Moving Locations
Left Arivaca, Arizona, and the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge on April 10 after 9 nights. Did laundry and food shopping in Tucson. Drove east of Tucson to find a forest service campground called Cochise Stronghold. We thought we were at the campground, but couldn’t find the self-pay station. We asked a camper who was out walking her dog. “Oh, this is all dispersed,” she said “ the actual campground is about 3 miles up that road.” What?!! “Dispersed”” means FREE with no amenities. Since that actual campground, according to the forest service website, had zero amenities anyway except two vault toilets—no water, no trash dumpsters—and cost $10 per night, we decided to stay in the dispersed area. Campsites are more spread out in a dispersed camp, so we liked that. We parked beside a fire ring in a beautiful area of oak trees surrounded by the famous rocky hillsides where Cochise hid out from the soldiers who’d been sent out to bring him in to the reservation, and we have been here now for six nights. So quiet. So peaceful. Very private. Happy to be here. Zero phone connectivity, though. Probably will leave in a couple of days, since we will be running out of water by then and our propane will be getting low. Next destination will be Tombstone,Arizona, which I think is pretty touristy but will be fun. Thinking hotel room with a shower…😊
